Moissanite Wedding Bands

Moissanite is known for its brilliance and fire, which a wedding band set with it also shows. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale the stones resist scratching, and because their optical properties stay stable they do not cloud or change color. Depending on the style, the stones encircle the entire band, or cover the top portion only. It can be stacked beside an engagement ring or worn on its own. Either way, it is designed for lifelong daily wear.

FAQs

No. It is a gem-quality silicon carbide, not a diamond simulant. Moissanite is its own gemstone, with its own optical properties and hardness. A band set with it is not a stand-in for another stone, and at a Mohs hardness of 9.25 it takes daily wear.
Mainly because supply is plentiful. Moissanite is grown in a lab on demand, and output can follow the market. Diamonds are mined. Mining and marketing are expensive. Its price often runs ten times moissanite's, or more, for a stone of the same size.
Moissanite is grown in a lab, so no mine is involved. The stone is made, not extracted, and no ground is disturbed and no mine labor is paid for it. The claim ends at the stone, and says nothing about the metal it is set in.
Not at arm's length. In ordinary indoor light most people take it for a diamond, and separating the two is a jeweler's job. The usual check is doubled facet junctions, since even a thermal tester reads moissanite as diamond.
Usually. A band with a plain section at the back can be cut and rejoined, and most bands have one. A band set with stones all the way around has no bare metal to work with, so it cannot be resized. Stones part of the way still leave room, though the change is usually one or two sizes.
Bezel and channel protect the stone best. A bezel covers the edge, and a channel sinks the row between two walls so nothing catches on clothing. Prongs use less metal, which lets more light reach the stone. Pavé sets small stones low, close to the surface.
Warm water, a few drops of mild soap, and a soft brush. Soak the band for half an hour, brush gently around the settings, rinse it, and dry with a soft cloth. Once a week is enough, with a professional check twice a year.
